How to get more Google reviews for your business
More reviews come from asking every customer at the right moment and making it take less than a minute. Here's a practical playbook for restaurants, salons, clinics, shops and other local businesses in India.
The short answer
To get more Google reviews: (1) get your direct review link from Google Business Profile, (2) ask every customer right after their visit, (3) make it quick with a QR code, NFC standee or WhatsApp message, (4) help them say it in their own words, and (5) reply to every review. Never pay for reviews, ask only happy customers or post reviews for them.
Why Google reviews matter for local businesses
Google reviews and your rating are among the first things people see when they search for a business near them on Google Search and Maps. Recent, detailed reviews help customers decide and show that you're active.
What not to do
Google removes reviews and can restrict your profile for rating manipulation. Avoid these:
- Offering discounts, freebies or cashback for reviews
- Sending only happy customers to Google (review gating)
- Writing reviews for customers or posting from staff accounts
- Setting staff targets or asking for reviews that mention staff by name
- Buying reviews
Make it quick for the customer
The biggest drop-off is the blank review box. Giving customers a few words to tap and a short review written from those words — which they can edit — turns "I'll do it later" into a 30-second job.
Ask on WhatsApp after the visit
For appointments, deliveries and bigger purchases, a short WhatsApp message with your review link a few hours later works well. Keep it neutral: ask for an honest review, nothing in return.
Reply to every review
Thank people for specific things they mentioned. For critical reviews, apologise, don't argue, and invite them to contact you. Replies show future customers that you listen.
